Aloof - Producer Info

Sonia Bolaños entered the world of coffee at a young age, picking cherries to help support her family. Over time, she expanded her knowledge and took on a larger role in coffee production, eventually marrying fellow producer Deimar Muñoz. Together, they have grown their farm, La Esperanza, to 5.5 hectares, cultivating Caturra, Pink Bourbon, and Castillo.

For years, Sonia and Deimar worked within the Los Naranjos producer association, seeking better prices for their coffee. However, the limitations of traditional coffee sales channels led them to search for a more direct and transparent path. That’s where Monkaaba comes in: a producer-led initiative helping smallholders gain control over their coffee’s quality, pricing, and market access.

Sonia’s dedication to learning and improving her coffee is evident. With guidance from Monkaaba’s team, she has refined her processing methods, ensuring that each harvest meets the highest standards. Her journey is one of resilience, passion, and a deep commitment to her craft.

By choosing Aloof, you’re not just enjoying an incredible cup, you’re supporting a producer who has worked tirelessly to bring her coffee to the specialty market. Sonia’s commitment to quality and her participation in Monkaaba, a producer-led initiative focused on empowerment and education, reflect the future of specialty coffee in Huila.
