WHOLE BEAN COFFEE

Tastes Like: Buckwheat Honey, Red Apple, Toasted Oolong, Floral

This washed pluma is the kind of coffee you brew when you want to slow things down. Gentle yet expressive, it’s a cup that invites you to pause and notice the quiet layers unfolding with every sip. With tasting notes of syrup-sweetness, red plum and a hint of toasted tea and florals, this washed Pluma from Oaxaca is refined, sweet, and beautifully composed.

Grown on Guadalupe’s 7-hectare farm, El Rancho del Abuelo, in San Agustín Loxicha, this coffee is rooted in family legacy and shaped by years of steady dedication. Alongside her husband Delfino, Guadalupe has rebuilt and expanded the farm her father-in-law began, blending traditional methods with new fermentation techniques learned through community workshops. Her care and persistence have elevated their coffee to specialty quality and turned their family’s story into one of quiet strength and progress.

By choosing this coffee, you’re tasting the grace and determination of a producer whose work represents both heritage and hope.

About the Producer: Guadalupe Martinez Perez

This lot was grown by Guadalupe Martinez Perez and her husband Delfino on their 7-hectare family farm, El Rancho del Abuelo (“The Grandfather’s Ranch”), a tribute to Delfino’s father who planted the first coffee trees on their land decades ago.

Over the years, Guadalupe and Delfino have expanded the farm through dedication, government replanting programs, and sheer persistence, turning a few hundred trees into a thriving 7-hectare operation intercropped with fruit trees like lemons, plums, and apricots.

Guadalupe has become a leader in her community, attending workshops and perfecting post-harvest techniques that have raised the quality of their coffees to specialty level. She represents their work at coffee events across Oaxaca, proudly sharing their story and their coffee.

For the Martinez Perez family, coffee is heritage, progress, and unity. Each harvest is a reminder of what can grow when care, skill, and family come together.

Sourcing in Mexico

This washed Pluma coffee comes from the highlands of San Agustín Loxicha, nestled in the Sierra Madre del Sur of Oaxaca, Mexico. The area’s steep mountains, fertile soils, and cool climate create the perfect conditions for the Pluma variety, a regional gem prized for its clarity and sweetness.

At Finca Juquilita, cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, then dry-fermented for 24 hours before being depulped and undergoing a second fermentation in small tubs. After washing, the coffee is dried slowly on shaded African beds for 10 to 12 days, allowing sugars and aromatics to develop fully. The result is a remarkably clean cup with delicate layers of buckwheat honey, oolong tea, and soft floral notes that are elegant, balanced, and quietly complex.

We sourced this coffee from our import partner Semilla Coffee based in Montreal, Canada.
