Two very small, very bossy people are the reason this coffee exists.

My nieces are almost 6 and almost 2 now. They’re so, so cute. They’re also incredibly sassy, and both are fully convinced they’re in charge (they are).

I was at their house the other day when they spotted the cake pops. My oldest niece grabbed my arm and started pulling, chanting “CAKE POPS! CAKE POPS! CAKE POPS!” The little one was in my arms, bopping up and down, shouting “POP POP POP!” I still don't fully comprehend what was happening in that moment, but it was clear that these two tiny people were very excited for approximately two bites of cake on a stick. And it really got me laughing.

Where It All Started

Cozy Cozy started as a love letter to my oldest niece.

A few winters ago, she came over for one of our holiday slumber parties. She was two at the time. Small, full of personality, and completely devastated when she realized she’d forgotten her favourite blanket at home (she used to call it her "buckee"). I went on a hunt through the house and came back with a ridiculously soft, pink throw for her.

She wrapped herself in it, let out the biggest sigh, and giggled, “Cozy cozy.”

That moment was everything and the name stuck. Now there are two of them, and they’re the essence of this blend.

What’s in the Cup This Year

This year’s Cozy Cozy brings together washed coffees from India and Bolivia.

Tastes like: Blood Orange, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Baking Spices.

It’s sweet, it’s spiced, and it’s exactly what you want next to a tray of holiday baking. It works beautifully as espresso, filter and cold brew, so you can choose your own adventure.

The Families Behind It

Cozy Cozy is about togetherness, so it makes sense that this year’s blend comes from families who work side by side.

Bolivia: Carmela Aduviri, Juana Gonzales, and Nancy Palli farm in Copacabana, a colony of 35 families in Caranavi. Caranavi is home to 80% of Bolivia’s specialty coffee, and for most families in Copacabana, coffee is their main source of income. Harvest runs from roughly June to October. Because of the high altitude and steep terrain, cherries ripen slowly and unevenly, so growers make several passes through the season to pick only the ripe ones. Each day, families pick cherries, then come together in the evening to sort and select the best ones before taking them to the wet mill a few kilometres away.

India: 

The Appadurai family grows this coffee at Biccode Estate, a 150-hectare coffee and pepper estate near Belur, in Hassan, Karnataka. Its story goes back to 1906, when an Englishman named Clement Lake built the estate’s bungalow. In 2023, the family restored it and opened it as a heritage homestay, so visitors can stay right on the farm. The coffee grows under a canopy of shade trees alongside pepper vines and areca palms (plus plenty of avocados), and every cherry is hand-picked over several passes.

Hamsini Appadurai leads marketing and sales, has 15 years in coffee, and is President of the Specialty Coffee Association of India. Her daughter Shriya left a career in investment banking to lead business development, building the estate’s partnerships around the world.
