Why This Coffee is Quirky
Tastes Like: Lemon Starburst, Creamed Honey, Black Tea
Meet Quirky, a coffee that’s full of surprises. It’s playful, unexpected, and layered with complexity (it's also organic!). From the first sip, you’ll experience a balance of delicate florals, citrus brightness, and a creamy sweetness that lingers. It’s the kind of coffee that keeps you engaged, revealing something new with every brew. Quirky isn’t just different—it’s refreshingly bold in its own way.
Sourced from the highlands of Uganda’s Mount Elgon region, we came across Mountain Harvest’s Mothers’ Micro-lot from our friends and roasting partner - KW Coffee Collective in Kitchener, Canada. This coffee is grown and processed entirely by women smallholder farmers. These women play a vital role in coffee production yet often remain unseen in leadership and decision-making. Mountain Harvest is changing that narrative—empowering women with financial resources, training, and the opportunity to have ownership over their craft. Their work produces not only incredible coffee but also lasting change in their communities.

About the Producers: Mothers of Mt. Elgon
The women behind Quirky aren’t just coffee farmers—they’re change-makers. In Uganda, women perform up to 70% of the manual labor on coffee farms yet have historically had limited access to decision-making, financial resources, and leadership roles. Mountain Harvest launched a Gender Inclusion Strategy to challenge this imbalance, investing in women’s leadership, training programs, and microfinance initiatives that allow these farmers to take control of their futures.
The results speak for themselves: since 2017, the number of women farmers with certification has grown from 13% to 39%, and women’s leadership within Mountain Harvest’s management has increased from 14% to 57%. Women now have access to microloans, savings groups, and agricultural training that fits into their daily lives. This investment doesn’t just benefit them—it improves farm productivity, coffee quality, and the entire community’s well-being.
These women take pride in their work, and it shows in every cup of Quirky. When you drink this coffee, you’re not just enjoying a phenomenal brew—you’re supporting a movement that values and uplifts women in coffee.
Sourcing in Uganda
We partnered with Mountain Harvest through our friends at KW Coffee Collective, a Ugandan-based green coffee importer, to bring Quirky to you. Mountain Harvest works directly with smallholder farmers to ensure they receive fair compensation, access to resources, and the support needed to elevate their coffee quality. Uganda is often overlooked in the specialty coffee world, but this region is home to some of the most vibrant and unique coffees.
By sourcing coffee with intention, we help create sustainable opportunities that keep farmers connected to their craft and their future. When you drink Quirky, you’re not just savouring a great coffee—you’re investing in a more equitable coffee industry.
