Why This Coffee is Perky
Tastes Like: Cherry Jam, Amaretto, Hint of Lavender
Perky is the coffee you reach for when you need a little extra spark. Bright and playful, it delivers a juicy, fruit-forward experience that wakes up your senses and brings a bit of sunshine to your cup. With notes of cherry jam, amaretto sweetness, and a hint of lavender, it’s a coffee that’s as lively as it is smooth—whether you’re kickstarting your morning or chasing an afternoon pick-me-up.
This single-origin lot comes from Mr. Ocholo Bedecho’s family farm in Guji, Ethiopia. Although not a female-certified farm, we chose this coffee for our line-up because of how Mr. Ocholo runs his operations and treats his people. Ethiopian coffees have always held a special place in my heart—their vibrant flavours remind me of childhood summers, slurping strawberry ice creams and sipping mango lassis made by my parents. Perky brings that same joyful energy to your daily routine.
By choosing Perky, you’re not just enjoying a standout coffee—you’re supporting a producer whose dedication to his farm and family is at the heart of every cup. Through the Single Farmer Project, Mr. Ocholo has been able to bring his exceptional coffee directly to market, ensuring transparency, fair pricing, and recognition for his craft.

About the Producer: Ocholo Bedecho
Mr. Ocholo Bedecho owns and operates an 8-hectare farm in the Urga district of Guji, Ethiopia. His land is considered one of the largest in the area, and he runs it with the help of his family. As a father of two daughters and six sons, his work in coffee has allowed him to send all of his children to school while ensuring that his farm thrives.
Most of his income comes from his coffee farm although he also processes some vegetables and Enset (false banana) for daily food from his back yard/garden.
His coffee is part of the Single Farmer Project, accessed through one of our import partners, Cafe Imports. It is an initiative designed to support Ethiopian coffee producers with direct access to specialty buyers. This program allows farmers like Mr. Ocholo to set their own prices and receive full credit for their harvests, creating a more sustainable and rewarding future for them and their families.
Sourcing in Ethiopia
Ethiopia’s coffee industry is built on generations of tradition, but access to international markets has long been a challenge for individual farmers. The Single Farmer Project from Cafe Imports (one of our import partners) changes that by working with smallholder producers to provide full traceability, fair pricing, and recognition. Rather than selling to large cooperatives or intermediaries, farmers like Mr. Ocholo can directly connect with roasters, ensuring their hard work is valued and rewarded.
Back in 2012, during a turbulent time in Ethiopia's coffee exporting history, Cafe Imports CEO Jason Long worked with an established cooperative to export some of the first ever truly “Farm Traceable” lots from Ethiopia. This was the first time a roaster could highlight the individual farmer for their Ethiopian Coffee. It was the start of an incredible project and truly began the movement for traceability in Ethiopia as we see more often today.
This project is made possible in conjunction with important export partners supporting and bringing to market individual farmer lots. Samples are sent out to potential buyers, price is negotiated on the farmers' behalf, and contracts are only accepted when the producer agrees on a sales price and their name is on the contract for each coffee they sell.
“Our goals with this project would be to help garner and develop long-term relationships between the producers we are already working with and coffee roasting companies that share in the values of transparency, traceability, and relationship that this program represents," says Claudia, green-coffee buyer for Cafe Imports.
By choosing Perky, you’re not just drinking a great cup—you’re helping to support a more equitable and sustainable coffee industry in Ethiopia.
